QMS to begin Economics as a New Optional Subject as an alternative to Science from Std IX onwards

QMS to begin Economics as a New Optional Subject as an alternative to Science from Std IX onwards

Economics as Group II Elective Subject introduced as an option to Science in Std. IX

This year 2026, Queen Mary's School is proposing to introduce in Std. IX, a new subject - Economics as a suitable alternative(optional) subject instead of Science. The other existing options being given to students so far were either Hindi or Odia in second language option and the option of choosing between Home Science or Computer as their Group - III elective subject. With this move, the school has begun separate streams of Science, Arts and Commerce.

So all those students who are not interested in studying Physics, Chemistry and Biology and do not intend to go in medical or engineering professions, can apply now itself only for Economics as one subject (100 marks) instead of studying Science (100 marks) (Physics-Chemistry-Biology). One clear indicator for students for deciding these options could be to see if they are scoring consistently low marks in Science subjects. If so, the choice of studying Economics instead of separate subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology can help students to score better.

All the parents of present Std. VIII students are requested to give their consent signature for the students to make their following choices, latest.
Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) OR Economics.
Computer OR Home Science.
Hindi OR Odia.
This decision aims to provide students with a competitive edge in their preferred electives, enabling them to begin specialized career preparation much sooner.
